Experian strengthens global email marketing capabilities with acquisition of United MailSolutions GmbH in Germany

Experian®, the global information services company, has today acquired United MailSolutions GmbH (‘UMS’), a leading email marketing company in Germany, from its parent company, United MailSolutions AG.  UMS will operate as Experian CheetahMail, the company’s email marketing and customer intelligence provider.

Based in Düsseldorf and founded in 1999, UMS is a German permission-based email marketing company, offering services for digital direct marketing and email deployment, with additional operations in the UK and in Spain.  It has over 150 clients across Europe in sectors including, publishing, travel, retail and finance and counts Lidl, Simyo and Volvo

The acquisition of UMS is a further step in Experian’s strategy to expand its fast-growing digital marketing activities globally and further strengthens its presence in Germany, which is Europe’s largest and fastest growing country for email marketing spend ¹.

The acquisition further reinforces Experian CheetahMail as the world’s and Europe’s largest permission-based email marketing provider, with principal operations in the key markets of the US, the UK, France, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, as well as Asia Pacific, Australia and New Zealand. Experian CheetahMail has a distribution capability in over 25 languages across 50 countries and offers the largest client service team of any email provider in Europe.

Steve Lomax, Managing Director, Experian CheetahMail, Europe commented: "UMS has a tremendous reputation in the email marketing industry and the organisation has a strong strategic fit with Experian CheetahMail, from a client focus, technology and delivery perspective. This acquisition grows our global footprint and provides our domestic and international clients operating in Germany with access to global resources.”

Jörn Grunert, CEO of UMS, said: “As part of Experian, we are looking forward to leveraging the organisation’s global resources and expertise to deliver even greater service to our clients. The synergies the two businesses share and the competitive advantages we will offer clients are compelling - total client service focus and sector specific consulting expertise, combined with both of our feature-rich email platforms. The combination of these factors will enable our clients to deliver highly effective, relevant and targeted email marketing campaigns to consumers locally and globally.”

As Experian CheetahMail, UMS will form part of Experian’s Marketing Services division, whose capabilities include consumer and competitor insight, data management and enrichment, strategy and consulting, modelling and analytics, as well as email marketing to enhance targeted marketing and customer engagement.
